I was THIS CLOSE (picture me with two fingers a nanometer apart) to seeing Norah Jones at the Greek this Saturday, but alas I wasn't quick enough. *sigh* Oh well.

Time for a nice, light entry. I love pearl tea. I had Fantasia today, which I haven't had in awhile. Yum! TBC (to be continued, which means I have more to write but I will brb)

From CNN.com today:

First public gay high school to open in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) --New York City is creating the nation's first public high school for gays, bisexuals and transgender students.

The Harvey Milk High School will enroll about 100 students and open in a newly renovated building in the fall. It is named after San Francisco's first openly gay city supervisor, who was assassinated in 1978.

"I think everybody feels that it's a good idea because some of the kids who are gays and lesbians have been constantly harassed and beaten in other schools," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday. "It lets them get an education without having to worry."

The school is an expansion of a two-classroom public school program that began in 1984. A gay-rights youth advocacy group, the Hetrick-Martin Institute, has managed and financed the program since its inception.

The new school's principal, William Salzman, said the school will be academically challenging and will follow mandatory English and math programs. It also will specialize in computer technology, arts and culinary arts.

State Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long criticized the creation of the school.

"Is there a different way to teach homosexuals? Is there gay math? This is wrong," Long said. "There's no reason these children should be treated separately."

The Hetrick-Martin Institute's Web site says the school will give its students "an opportunity to obtain a secondary education in a safe and supportive environment. ... We believe that success requires the ability to respect and value the diverse human community."

I know this is going to cause a lot of gauntlets to be thrown. Many people comment that this is bad because sheltering gay kids in their own environment doesn't help them toughen up and learn to face difficulty, and it doesn't help the other students become more tolerant of different people. Well golly, then the same should apply to any school that focuses on teaching students from a particular group. You live a very sheltered life by attending an only-Chinese school or an all-girls school or an all-boys schools and... the list goes on.

And as we talk about this topic, I would like to remember someone.

Excuse the angry post from yesterday. I'm still pretty pissed because these people must have a warped sense of body image and then they try to insult me with it. What do they hope to accomplish? I know they're not saying it because they're concerned; they're just saying it to make fun or to compare me to other people. I shouldn't care about what they say, but the fact that they DO THIS EVERY TIME THEY SEE ME really infuriates me.

These deluded idiots who think that if you aren't a skinny ass waif, then you're automatically branded as CHUBBY or FAT....

REAL women have curves. So, SCREW YOUR DELUDED SENSE OF BODY IMAGE.

I've never had gelato before until this week. Today was the second time I've had it (from the same place, too). While I wasn't terribly impressed the first time I had it, today I tried green tea gelato and it was GOOD. It had a hint of honey and it wasn't too herb-y, if you know what I mean. Nice and refreshing. I tried to eat as slowly as I could to savor the flavor, all the while relaxing outside in the finally-cooled-down weather.

As my friend Clarissa would say, "Raaaarrr."

Currently on my desktop at work:

I loved this book!

Sometimes it really sucks to be the only female in an otherwise all-male team.

I came home from dinner tonight and found my dad watching TV. Seann William Scott was on the screen. I was confused. I thought, 'why is my dad watching something with Seann William Scott? He always does the teeny movies.' I flip through the TV Guide, and Road Trip was on. My dad was watching Road Trip. And he seemed to be enjoying it, too.

What a funny world.

Ever since the music industry decided to crack down on all those no-good mp3 downloaders, I've been forced to buy CDs. So yesterday I splurged and bought 2 new CDs-- Maroon 5's Songs About Jane and John Mayer's Any Given Thursday, which is his live concert album. I've been listening to both albums over and over and over.
